Even politicians can’t resist some light-hearted rivalry ribbing.

University of Florida grad Marco Rubio, a state senator and 2016 presidential candidate from the Sunshine State, took to the airwaves Monday morning via KXNO 1460 AM out of Iowa to discuss a variety of policy-related topics.

He then abruptly jabbed Florida State.

“I donโ€™t have anything against Florida State,” Rubio said. “I think there has to be a school where people who canโ€™t get into Florida can go to college.โ€

Zing!

When someone prefaces their next thought with “I don’t have anything against … “, prepare for the uppercut.

Rubio went even further and said he would pull for another team in Florida before those hated Seminoles in Tallahassee.

โ€œI grew up in Miami, Iโ€™m a Gator fan, but I donโ€™t root against the Hurricanes,โ€ Rubio told the radio station. โ€œWhen they play Florida State, it isnโ€™t hard for me to root against Florida State.โ€

So much for winning any votes in the Panhandle.

Update: Florida State’s president responded to Rubio.
