All signs are pointing to Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell being named the next head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. But with a vacancy set to be in place on the staff of Sean McVay following the Super Bowl, the team could look to a former assistant to rejoin the franchise as O’Connell’s replacement.
According to The Athletic NFL insider Jeff Howe, a name that could pop up for the Rams is Liam Coen. The Wildcats offensive coordinator was L.A.’s assistant wide receivers coach in 2018 and 2019 and its assistant quarterbacks coach in 2020 before joining the Kentucky staff. Under the guidance of Coen in 2021, the Wildcats averaged 32.3 points per game and just over 425 yards of total offense.
Before his tenure with the Rams, Coen was offensive coordinator at FCS program Maine. That followed stops at Brown, Rhode Island, and UMass.
With Kevin O’Connell in position to take over as the Vikings head coach, the Rams could turn to Kentucky OC Liam Coen as their next OC. Coen was with the Rams from 2018-20.
