Quarterback Joey Aguilar threw for 396 yards and 3 scores, 3 different Vols receivers topped the 100-yard mark in the receiving department, and No. 17 Tennessee rolled past Kentucky, 56-34.
The Volunteers (6-2, 3-2 SEC), who have dominated the all-time series, extended their winning streak to 5 over the Wildcats (2-5, 0-5).
Tennessee got it rolling early, jumping out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. Aguilar completed 8 of his 9 passes for 127 yards and a score in the first 15 minutes of the game.
On a night when the ground game never quite took off, the downfield ball was a huge part of the Tennessee success story. Aguilar finished the game with 5 completions of at least 35 yards and 3 that went for at least 50.
Tennessee finished with 119 rushing yards at 3.7 a carry (adjusted for sacks). Star Thomas had 64 yards on 10 runs. DeSean Bishop had 48 on 14.
And yet Tennessee still averaged 8.5 per play.
Defense was optional on the other side as well. Kentucky rolled up nearly 500 yards of total offense at 6.5 per play. Redshirt freshman quarterback Cutter Boley threw for a career-high 330 yards and a freshman program record 5 touchdowns.
The 34 points Kentucky scored were the most against an SEC opponent since Sept. 23, 2023, when it had 45 against Vanderbilt.
Tennessee returns home next weekend to host Oklahoma. Kentucky will travel to Auburn.
