The showcase game in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge was held in Lexington on Saturday night, where No. 8 Kentucky took on No. 9 Kansas.

These two teams have been going in opposite directions lately, with the Jayhawks struggling after losing one of their top players to injury. Meanwhile, Kentucky’s freshman class is starting to improve and the Wildcats are playing their best basketball.

Usually, the story with Kentucky is Ashton Hagans, Keldon Johnson, Tyler Herro and the freshmen, but on Saturday night, it was all about senior graduate transfer Reid Travis and sophomore PJ Washington, who absolutely dominated the Jayhawks in the paint en route to a 71-63 victory.

Washington had a big night, recording a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 13 rebounds. Travis recorded a double-double of his own, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Hagans did pretty well, too, scoring 12 points, dishing out seven assists and nabbing three steals in the victory.

Kentucky improved to 16-3 with the win, while Kansas fell to 16-4 with the loss.
