Vanderbilt beat South Carolina 31-7 on the road in Columbia on Saturday night.
The Gamecocks scored a touchdown on their opening drive of the game, but didn’t find the end zone again for the rest of the night. The Gamecocks were able to move the ball at times, but they struggled to convert scoring opportunities.
South Carolina went 1-for-3 in the red zone and had 4 turnovers in the loss to Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks also went just 4-of-12 on third down and 1-for-3 on fourth down. It didn’t help that LaNorris Sellers was knocked out of the game with an apparent head injury in the first half. Luke Doty finished the game going 18-of-27 for 148 yards.
As for Vanderbilt, the Commodores were led by quarterback Diego Pavia. He threw for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns on 25 pass attempts. Vanderbilt played its usual ball-control style and had possession for more than 35 minutes of game time.
Vanderbilt is now 3-0 on the season, having won each of those contests by 20+ points. That’s the first time the Commodores have accomplished that feat since 1930, per the SEC Network.
