According to a report from Gabe DeArmond, the Missouri Tigers are on the verge of announcing their replacement for Dave Steckel at defensive coordinator.

Per DeArmond, Memphis defensive coordinator Barry Odom is expected to be announced as the team’s next defensive coordinator later today.

Odom was instrumental in improving Memphis’ defense during his three years with the Tigers. Memphis led the AAC in scoring defense (17.1 ppg) in 2014 and was third in total defense and rush defense.

He’ll will tasked with replacing Steckel, who had been Missouri’s defensive coordinator since 2009. Odom seemed like a natural fit for the position, however, considering he was a standout linebacker for Missouri in the late 90s and was on coaching staff there from 2003-11.

Last week, multiple media outlets reported Odom was a likely candidate for the position.

Steckel will coach the defense through Missouri’s bowl game on Jan. 1, before handing over the reins to Odom.
