Florida assistant head coachย Randy Shannon will take full control of defensive play-calling responsibilities for the Outback Bowl against Iowa, per Pat Dooley:

On Monday, defensive coordinator Geoff Collins accepted the head coaching position at Temple.

In all likelihood, Shannon will receive a promotion and become the Gators’ full-time DC heading into the offseason. He has a resume worthy of the job and is more qualified than any other potential candidate, also giving coach Jim McElwain both continuity and flexibility if (and when) the โ€œcoโ€ is taken off his job title.

Florida and Iowa will collide on Jan. 2 at 1 p.m. ET, and the game can be watched on ABC.
