The New England Patriots traded for former Mizzou DL Kony Ealy back in March, but apparently the move hasn’t worked out.
Only three weeks into the preseason, the Patriots have decided to move on from the former Carolina Panther, who recorded three sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in Super Bowl 50 two years ago.
According to NFL.com reporter Mike Garafolo, New England will release Ealy, who hasn’t fit into their system as well as originally hoped:
Patriots are releasing DE Kony Ealy, source said. Tried him in their scheme. Not a similar style to Ninkovich so it didn't work out.

With 14 sacks in 47 career games, Ealy is likely to land on his feet quickly, but with not much time left before the start of the regular season, he may not be ready for Week 1.
Ealy was a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and recorded 19 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception for the Panthers last season.
Plenty of teams need help along the defensive line, so it’ll be interesting to see where the former Mizzou star ends up.
