Jaylen Waddle’s broken ankle was widely described as a season-ending injury, even by Alabama coach Nick Saban, but there is a chance the elite play-maker could play another game for the Crimson Tide before UA’s 2020 campaign is over.

Matt Zenitz of AL.com reported that there is a chance Waddle could play in the College Football Playoff:

(Waddle) is set to have his cast removed this week, sources told AL.com. There continues to be a lot of optimism regarding his recovery that, while still unlikely, there’s at least a small chance he could be back for the College Football Playoff should the Crimson Tide make it there, according to sources.

The CFP semifinals are currently scheduled for Jan. 1 with the national championship game scheduled for Jan. 11. There have been discussions, however, of moving the three games to later dates due to all the COVID postponements and cancelations presenting problems for the conference championship games.

With Alabama 6-0 and ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25, Nick Saban’s squad is on track to return to the Playoff after missing out last season. The Crimson Tide has not yet officially locked up the SEC West title, but is in the driver’s seat and holds the tiebreaker over second-place Texas A&M.
