Rush Propst may not be done at Valdosta just yet. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Valdosta City Schools will reconsider Propst’s status.
On April 27, the school board voted 5-3 to not renew Propst’s contract. Now, member Warren Lee made a motion at Tuesday’s meeting to hold a new meeting to reconsider the decision on Propst. That meeting is on the agenda for Monday.
Valdosta lost an appeal last week to overturn GHSA penalties against Propst from allegations that he illegally enticed five transfer players. An audio recording emerged of Propst discussing user booster-club money to pay rent or utilities for potential transfer athletes. Todd Holcomb notes that under GHSA bylaws, “Any enticement or persuasion to persuade a student to transfer violates GHSA bylaws. It does not require financial assistance.”
Propst has not commented publicly since the allegations broke in February but submitted a statement to Valdosta on the matter. From Holcomb’s article:
“I have no personal knowledge of anyone providing rent, cash, or any other benefits to any student-athlete or prospective student-athlete associated with the Valdosta High School football program,” Propst wrote.
Shelton Felton, a former assistant coach at Tennessee on Jeremy Pruitt’s staff, is currently coaching Valdosta during the program’s spring practice.
