It won’t be long before some fans start showing up to the Rose Bowl by boat.
A few hours before kickoff, the Rose Bowl announced that there will be no pregame show ahead of Thursday’s College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup between Alabama and Indiana. As alluded to, this is due to the fact that it has been raining in Pasadena for the past few days, including heavy rain on Thursday morning.
According to On3Sports’ Brett McMurphy, both Alabama and Indiana’s bands will perform their pregame routines from the stands. Here’s the announcement from the Rose Bowl’s official X account:
College GameDay got a firsthand look at the rain as it blew into the area Thursday morning. Here’s a look at the scene:
The question now is this: how much of a factor will the field conditions be for Alabama and Indiana? The rain stopped just a few hours before kickoff, and the tarp is officially off the field, but it’s hard not to expect a bit of a sloppy game, especially in the first half.
So far, the quarterfinal round of the College Football Playoff has been very competitive. Miami and Ohio State played a close game on Wednesday night, and Oregon leads Texas Tech 6-0 heading into halftime at the Orange Bowl.
Kickoff for Alabama vs. Indiana at the Rose Bowl is set for 1 PT, 4 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on ESPN.
