Ryan Day on top: Fans, media react to head coach’s first national title

Ryan Day has finally done it at Ohio State.
On Monday night, the coach won his first National Championship with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The team knocked off Notre Dame 34-23 and are champions for the first time since 2014.
Day had taken the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff 2 previous times, but the team had failed to win it all in his tenure. Now, Day gets to forget that Michigan loss from earlier this season and enjoy a title.
In the game, the Buckeyes gained 445 total yards of offense. The defense, meanwhile, held the Irish to 308 total yards and allowed the team to convert just 5 of 12 3rd-down opportunities.
Just last month, there was a large contingent of fans who wanted Day gone. Now, the coach has completely redeemed himself and his reputation in Columbus.
The Buckeyes ended their season with wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame. It was an impressive gauntlet the team easily ran through to secure their first title in a decade.
