Ryan Grubb calls out fans for booing, ‘quitting’ on team during Florida State game

Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb took a jab at Crimson Tide fans during his weekly media availability on Monday afternoon.
After another slow start on both sides of the ball on Saturday against Florida State, fans inside Bryant-Denny Stadium began to boo the team amid an early 21-6 deficit.
The Crimson Tide ultimately turned things around thanks to a 23-point second quarter and a dominant second half. However, Grubb remembered the boos and credited his players for not folding after FSU’s hot start.
“I would say we had some boo birds,” Grubb said. “I told the guys, I said ‘shoot guys, if you had quit as fast as some of your fans, shit, we wouldn’t have won that game.’ So I was proud of them.
“For a bunch of 19-year-olds to go out there and, 21-6 and not flinch, I was fired up.”
Alabama had similar struggles early in the game against Kentucky in Week 2 but dominated the second half of that game as well.

To Grubb’s point, the Crimson Tide have been reliant on a number of very young and inexperienced players so far this season, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Keelon Russell and leading receiver Lotzeir Brooks are both class of 2025 recruits and are in just their second season of college football. Two of Alabama’s leading rushers, EJ Crowell and Trae’shawn Brown, are both true freshmen.
Regardless of their experience level, the Crimson Tide will hope to get off to a better start on Saturday against South Carolina.
