According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, standout Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams is set to miss the Crimson Tide’s Week 2 matchup against Louisiana Monroe. Williams is currently in concussion protocol after being knocked out of Alabama’s Week 1 game against Florida State.
This isn’t a major surprise for the Crimson Tide. There’s no sense in rushing Williams back to the field this week, especially where a concussion is concerned.
Williams had a fantastic freshman season with Alabama. He totaled 48 receptions for 865 yards and 8 touchdowns, including the game winning score against Georgia. The start of his sophomore season was… less exciting. Williams totaled 5 receptions for 30 yards against Florida State before exiting in the 4th quarter.
Alabama gets a much tamer opponent this week, but the Crimson Tide will absolutely be viewed through a magnifying glass after a gross lack of effort lost them their Week 1 matchup against Florida State. Alabama faces a Louisiana Monroe squad that is expected to finish in the bottom half of the Sun Belt, but the Warhawks are 1-0 on the year after blanking Saint Francis 29-0 in Week 1.
Saturday’s game is set to kick off at 6:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
