Sam Leavitt took part in walkthrough practice session Thursday, per report

One of the biggest games of the 2026 SEC calendar is on deck this weekend, with Lane Kiffin and his No. 7-ranked LSU Tigers set to travel to Oxford and take on Kiffin’s former program, the No. 8-ranked Ole Miss Rebels.
Almost everyone in the nation has had this game circled since Kiffin made his tumultuous exit from Ole Miss last December, and the bad blood has only grown since that fateful day between these two traditional rivals.
Adding to the intrigue of this must-see heavyweight SEC showdown is the status of star Tigers quarterback Sam Leavitt, who was surprisingly listed as doubtful on LSU’s Wednesday afternoon injury report. Despite this, the Bayou Bengals appeared to get some positive news on Thursday, with CBS Sports insider Matt Zentiz reporting that Leavitt took part in the walkthrough session.
Leavitt joined LSU this past offseason after spending 2 years with the Arizona State Sun Devils, leading the program to their first College Football Playoff appearance in 2024.
Leavitt performed well in the Tigers’ Week 1 win over Clemson but struggled last Saturday against Louisiana Tech, throwing 3 picks in the first half. He didn’t appear injured during the Week 2 win, but is apparently dealing with a sore throwing shoulder, presumably suffered during practice.
It will be interesting to see how this situation develops for Kiffin and LSU as kickoff draws nearer, as an injured Leavitt has completely changed the complexion of what is arguably the biggest game of the year for both the Tigers and the Rebels.
