Sam Pittman has been fired as head coach at Arkansas five games into his 6th season, a day after the Razorbacks fell 56-13 to Notre Dame.
Pittman was hired from Georgia, where he served as offensive line coach from 2016 to 2019 after three seasons in the same role in Fayetteville. It was his first head coaching role at the FBS level.
Despite a 3-7 mark in 2020, the Razorbacks snapped a 20-game SEC losing streak. In 2021, Arkansas finished 9-4 and in the top 25, leading to a contract extension for Pittman. The Razorbacks went 7-6 a year later before stumbling to a 4-8 record in 2023.
After Pittman was retained for the 2024 season, he brought in former Razorbacks head coach Bobby Petrino as his offensive coordinator while landing former Boise State quarterback Taylen Green out of the transfer portal. Arkansas saw a modest improvement that year, going 7-6.
But after a 2-0 start to 2025 thanks to wins over Arkansas State and FCS Arkansas A&M, the Razorbacks blew an 18-point lead in a loss to Memphis. Following Saturday’s loss to the Fighting Irish, a game where Arkansas trailed 42-13 at halftime, Pittman’s fate was sealed.
Sam Pittman‘s record at Arkansas was 32-34, including 14-29 in SEC play.
