Scott Frost’s seat is burning up in Lincoln, but don’t expect Nebraska to make a coaching change just yet.
Nebraska has millions of reasons to keep Frost for at least another month. As Pete Thamel of ESPN points out, Frost’s buyout at Nebraska drops from $15 million to $7.5 million on Oct. 1.
We detailed Scott Frost’s pay cut and buyout that drops from $15 million to $7.5 on Oct. 1. Not only the loss to double-digit underdog Northwestern, but the way Nebraska lost, adds more pessimism to Frost keeping the job. https://t.co/2lJC5NNbue

This is Frost’s fifth season as the head coach of Nebraska, his alma mater. The Cornhuskers are 15-30 in his tenure. Already off to an 0-1 start after a 3-9 season, Frost faces an uphill battle to keep his job. Nebraska is off on Sept. 24 and will play its fifth game of the season on Oct. 1.
The home opener on Sept. 3 against North Dakota is unlikely to have much of a festival atmosphere after Saturday’s upset loss to Northwestern. In Week 2, Nebraska hosts Georgia Southern.
Frost’s squad hosts No. 9 Oklahoma on Sept. 17. After the bye week, it’s homecoming for the Huskers against Indiana on Oct. 1.
After Oct. 1, Nebraska’s schedule plays out as follows:
- Oct. 7 at Rutgers
- Oct. 15 at Purdue
- Oct. 29 vs. Illinois
- Nov. 5 vs. Minnesota
- Nov. 12 at Michigan
- Nov. 19 vs. Wisconsin
- No. 25 at Iowa
Michigan and Iowa played for the Big Ten Championship last year. Wisconsin is being hyped as a potential New Year’s Six team in 2022.
