Scott Stricklin has been keeping “due diligence” on Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin with regards to the coaching situation at Florida, according to a report on Sunday by CBS Sports.

The report also said the Florida athletic director had been keeping tabs on Kiffin even before the firing of Gators head coach Billy Napier on Sunday. Stricklin has been making calls “to those around Kiffin,” according to the CBS Sports report.

Stricklin is aware of Kiffin’s unique personality with regards to potentially luring him to Gainesville, and the CBS Sports report acknowledged that industry sources who are familiar with Stricklin have “speculated” that Stricklin could be hesitant to strongly pursue the current Rebels head coach.

The report said that now with Napier gone, “Kiffin has emerged as the name boosters and fans most want.”

Florida is currently 3-4 this season after its narrow victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. Meanwhile, Kiffin has Ole Miss riding high at 6-1, although the Rebels suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday against Georgia.

Kiffin has a salary of $9 million, which is the 10th-highest salary among head coaches in college football. Florida’s potential pursuit of Kiffin will be one of the most fascinating things to follow as the Gators begin their coaching search.
