The No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs will be looking to get things back on track this weekend against the Kentucky Wildcats after Week 5’s loss to Alabama.
Oddsmakers in Vegas certainly like the Dawgs’ chances at a bounce-back win against their former SEC East rivals, with the line currently being set at -20.5 in their favor, but ESPN analyst and SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt isn’t convinced Georgia will cover.
Van Pelt discussed the matchup on his weekly College Football Winners segment, and he picked the Wildcats to cover down in Athens on Saturday.
“The throwaway line last week at the end of the segment was that we liked Bama against Georgia, but we didn’t put it on the card,” Van Pelt said. “Well, Kentucky is on here this week. Noon kick. Auburn is on deck next week [for Georgia]. It’s a lot to be laying in this ‘Cats versus Dogs clash.”
This line has moved slightly since Van Pelt made his pick. Most of the best sports betting apps now have Georgia favored by 19.5 or 20 points.
Given how Georgia has been playing so far this year, SVP’s pick is actually a pretty solid bet to make. He’s also 10-5 all-time when riding with Kentucky during this segment as well, so he also appears to have some good luck when it comes to the ‘Cats.
That being said, it’s also very possible that Georgia comes out looking to let out some frustrations from last weekend’s loss to the Tide, so it will be interesting to see how Van Pelt’s pick holds up come game time.
