Both Tennessee and Texas made the College Football Playoff for the 2024 season but took a step back last season. The Longhorns went 10-3, ending the 2025 campaign with a Citrus Bowl win. The Vols went 8-5, dropping the Music City Bowl against Illinois.

The Sept. 26 showdown may find Peyton Manning conflicted as an observer. The legendary former Tennessee quarterback frequently shows up for his alma mater’s biggest home games. The Volunteer great will certainly be expected to visit his old stomping grounds with nephew Arch Manning leading the Longhorns.

The September meeting will be the first between the storied football programs since the 1969 Cotton Bowl. It will be the 4th meeting all-time.
