SEC football predictions 2024: Media predicts conference champion, order of finish
By Andrew Olson
Published:
SEC Media Days wrapped up Thursday. Before departing Dallas, media members were asked to predict the SEC champion and regular-season order of finish.
Alabama is the defending SEC champion. Media members expect another team to take the crown in Atlanta this December.
Georgia was the overwhelming pick to win the SEC title, receiving 165 votes. Texas came in second with 27, followed by Alabama with 12. To see how oddsmakers view the conference title race, check out the latest SEC Championship odds.
School | Votes |
Georgia | 165 |
Texas | 27 |
Alabama | 12 |
Ole Miss | 4 |
Vanderbilt | 2 |
LSU | 2 |
South Carolina | 1 |
While it’s not hard to understand why Georgia, a regular presence in the conference championship game under Kirby Smart, is the favorite, it might not be the best news for the Bulldogs. The SEC notes that only nine times since 1992 has the predicted champion prior to the season at SEC Media Days proceeded to win the SEC Championship Game.

As a 16-team conference, the SEC is ditching divisions. It’s the first time since 1991 that there will not be divisions in SEC football. Here is the media’s predicted order of finish for the 2024 regular season:
School | Points |
Georgia | 3330 |
Texas | 3041 |
Alabama | 2891 |
Ole Miss | 2783 |
LSU | 2322 |
Missouri | 2240 |
Tennessee | 2168 |
Oklahoma | 2022 |
Texas A&M | 1684 |
Auburn | 1382 |
Kentucky | 1371 |
Florida | 1146 |
South Carolina | 923 |
Arkansas | 749 |
Mississippi State | 623 |
Vanderbilt | 293 |
At the top, the predicted order of the finish reflects the picks for champion. While Vanderbilt and South Carolina received a handful of official champion picks, the Commodores and Gamecocks are not expected to contend for the conference title. The teams are joined by Arkansas and Mississippi State in the bottom four of the predicted order of finish.
SEC football action begins in Week 1 of the 2024 season. The first games involving conference programs are Arkansas vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mizzou vs. Murray State on Thursday, Aug. 29. Oklahoma plays Temple on Friday, Aug. 30. Ten SEC teams will play on Saturday, Aug. 31. LSU vs. USC in Las Vegas on Sunday night wraps up the Labor Day Weekend Week 1 slate.
