As the Alabama Crimson Tide prepare to kick off their season against the Florida State Seminoles on Aug. 30, they face an unexpected hurdle: senior running back Jam Miller will be sidelined due to an upper body injury.

With kickoff rapidly approaching, how will Alabama adapt without one of their most dynamic offensive weapons? The Tyler, Texas, native was primed to take the starting tailback role this season, having emerged as Alabama’s top returning rusher with 668 yards and 7 touchdowns from 145 carries in 2024.

SEC Network analyst Roman Harper offered some insight into how Alabama might navigate the challenge.

“I know with [Ryan] Grubb as the offensive coordinator, they want to throw the football,” Harper explained. “That is what he likes to do. So whoever can protect the quarterback by maybe being a good pass blocker, as well as someone being efficient enough to catch the football, will be the guy that really kind of steps in.”

So who are the candidates ready to step into Miller’s Shoes? Keep an eye on AK Dear, Daniel Hill, Dre Washington, and Richard Young—each brings unique skills and physical attributes that could maintain Alabama’s offensive momentum until Miller Returns.

While injuries at the running back seem to plague the Crimson Tide year after year, this next wave of talent is ready to rise to the occasion.

Kickoff against Florida State is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee.
