SEC starts nation-leading 8 true freshmen during Week 1

When you’re signed at a position of need in the SEC, expect to play early.

Eight true freshmen started games in the SEC during Week 1, tied with the PAC-12 for tops in the country. Tennessee played a total of 21 rookies during Sunday’s win over Utah State, the most in college football.

Here’s a breakdown of the SEC’s true freshmen starters. Texas A&M safety Armani Watts had the best showing, recording three tackles and an interception.
