An Air Force service member has died after falling from the rafters of the Alamodome before Saturday’s matchup between Navy and UTSA. The service member, whose identity is being held at this time, was attempting to rappel from the top of the stadium during a pregame demonstration. This took place before UTSAโs annual Salute to Armed Forces & Veterans game.
A spokesperson for Nellis Air Force Base confirmed the service member was assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2. The service member was immediately attended to by medical personnel on the field and rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight’s game,” UTSA said in a statement. “Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues.”
According to the spokesperson for Nellis Air Force Base, the incident is currently under investigation.
