Shane Beamer expresses confidence in South Carolina: ‘I’m very excited’

South Carolina coach Shane Beamer spoke confidently during his annual appearance at SEC Media Days on Tuesday.
He did so while acknowledging that he doesn’t expect much public support for the Gamecocks entering the year after a disastrous 2025 campaign. After beginning the year as a popular College Football Playoff pick, South Carolina limped to a 4-8 season.
The primary driver of Beamer’s confidence seems to be another year of experience for a young, talented roster. Several of South Carolina’s key players, including quarterback LaNorris Sellers and edge rusher Dylan Stewart, were also there in 2024 when the Gamecocks got to the doorstep of a CFP appearance.
“This year, we won’t be picked very high. I get that,” Beamer said. “We have the same players that we did last year when you picked us high, and they’re another year older. I’m very excited about that.”

Beamer made other changes this offseason, most notably at offensive coordinator with Kendall Briles coming in to run the show. The Gamecocks will be hoping to take a big step forward on offense this season after ranking 13th in yards per play in the SEC last year.
Most sports betting apps don’t see the same upside in South Carolina. Per BetMGM, the Gamecocks have a projected win total of 6.5 for the upcoming season. They are priced at +850 to reach the College Football Playoff.
