Shane Beamer provides final status of Dylan Stewart, Jacarrius Peak for Week 2 game vs. Towson

Shane Beamer will leave South Carolina fans waiting a little longer for Dylan Stewart’s return to the lineup and the debut of NC State transfer Jacarrius Peak.
On Thursday’s edition of his weekly Carolina Calls show, Beamer stated that both Stewart and Peak would miss Week 2’s game against FCS Towson. That comes days after Beamer told reporters that they would be “extremely doubtful” against the Tigers. That said, according to the Post and Courier‘s David Cloninger, “progress is going great” for both players, per Beamer.
South Carolina looked more than fine without Stewart and Peak during Week 1, coasting to a 57-0 win over Kent State. It should have little problem with Towson on Saturday, too. That still leaves both players on track to return in Week 3, when the Gamecocks open SEC play against Mississippi State.
Gamecock fans are undoubtedly looking forward to the return of Stewart, a player projected to be a first-round pick — and possible Top 10 selection — in the 2027 NFL Draft. The All-SEC first-team selection had 6.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for a loss as a true freshman in 2024, then recorded 12.0 TFLs and 4.5 sacks in 2025. Peak, meanwhile, should prove a valuable addition after being named All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2025 while at NC State.
One other player who will be missing for the Gamecocks is Jalewis Solomon. Shane Beamer said that the redshirt sophomore won’t play against Towson after getting “banged up in practice.” Solomon appeared against Kent State but didn’t record any stats.
