On Tuesday, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer spoke to media regarding, among other things, the current status of star pass rusher Dylan Stewart.
Perhaps most crucially, Beamer said that he does not expect Dylan Stewart’s injury issues to bleed into the regular season when it kicks off in a little over 5 months. The star edge, who Beamer said would miss time in spring practice a few weeks ago, is working through, “a continuation of what he dealt with the last half of last season” according to a report from The Island Packet from mid-March.
Specifically, Beamer told reporters Tuesday that Stewart is “literally doing nothing” after some light work back in January. “Right now, we expect him to be 100 percent, full-go, when we kick the season off,” Beamer said.
Stewart is a wrecking ball when fully healthy, especially when it comes to forcing turnovers. The rising junior totaled 4.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss last seasons despite working through the same back injury that he is in the middle of rehabbing now. For his career, Stewart has totaled 10.5 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 3 pass deflections and 56 total tackles across 21 games of action.
