Shane Beamer reveals status of Dylan Stewart, Jacarrius Peak ahead of Week 1

South Carolina expects to be without two of its top players for the season opener on Saturday.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared an update from Shane Beamer on Tuesday morning. Beamer told Thamel that he does not expect defensive end Dylan Stewart or left tackle Jacarrius Peak to play on Saturday against Kent State. Beamer, though, did have encouraging news, saying that both players are ramping up toward returning to action.

The good news for South Carolina is that Weeks 1 and 2 feature two of the most likely wins on the Gamecocks’ 2026 schedule. Beamer’s squad does not get into playing its 10 Power 4 opponents (9 SEC games and Clemson) until Week 3.
He said Stewart “will be cleared for contact soon and then he’ll be ready to roll.” South Carolina plays Towson Week 2 and Mississippi State Week 3.
