Shane Beamer: South Carolina’s victory over Kentucky was ‘as good a win as we’ve had around here in 5 seasons’

Things haven’t exactly gone the way the South Carolina Gamecocks had hoped they would over the first half of the 2025 season, as injuries and lackluster production have caused an uber-talented Carolina squad to drop 2 of their first 5 games.

After entering the year with extremely high expectations and a top-10 ranking in the AP Poll, coming out of the gates with such a disastrous start has thrown things into disarray in Columbia.

With 2 losses already under their belt, the Gamecocks desperately needed to make a statement against the Kentucky Wildcats this past Saturday, and that’s precisely what they did, handing the Cats a 35-13 beatdown.

This was precisely the type of response that Carolina needed in Week 5, and head coach Shane Beamer recently sat down with the crew of College Sports on SiriusXM to discuss the much-needed W for his team.

“I’ll be honest with you, that’s as good a win as we’ve had around here in 5 seasons,” Beamer said. “Just because of what the game meant, you know. Going into an off week, coming off 2 disappointing losses. It’s been a hard, emotional first 5 weeks of the season… There was just a lot going on last week, and I’m just really proud of how our guys responded.”

There’s no denying that 2025 has been a bit of a roller coaster for the Gamecocks so far, but a win like this can go a long way towards getting things back on track.

If Carolina can continue building on the momentum they gained against Kentucky, then they could still end up having a very good season despite the early stumbles.
