SMU at Florida State delayed due to power outage at Doak S. Campbell Stadium

Fans are going to have to wait a little while longer for Monday’s night’s ACC battle between SMU and Florida State.
According to the ESPN broadcast, there has been a power surge at Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, which means the game cannot be played until power is restored. The game was set to begin at 7:35 p.m. ET, but is now in a holding pattern as crews work to get the lights back on.
Keep in mind, the sun officially set in Tallahassee at 7:52 p.m., which means the Seminoles/Mustang crowd is minutes away from being cloaked in darkness.
ESPN sideline reporter Taylor McGregor had the following update at 7:50 p.m. ET:
“They went to reset the transformer and then the transformer blew, so they’re going to a backup plan right now, but nobody really has any idea how long that could take,” McGregor said. “…They’re trying to decide how long they should stay out here on the field. It is the preference of both teams that they want to stay out here for 5-10 minutes. If it were to go longer than that, they’ll go back into their locker room and at that point, they would have to decide how much time would be allocated to each team to then warm up again.”
The broadcast later stated that an update is expected at 8:20 p.m. ET.
Monday’s matchup between Florida State and SMU is the final game of the Week 1 slate in college football. The Mustangs are the No. 19 team in the country, led by star QB Kevin Jennings. Florida State, on the other hand, is 1-0 after beating New Mexico State in Week 0.
