South Carolina announces sellout of Week 3 game against Mississippi State

South Carolina is off to a 2-0 start for the third straight season. While those two games haven’t been against the highest level of competition — Kent State and Towson — the Gamecocks have at least looked good in victory, outscoring opponents 102-9.
Week 3, though, is the start of SEC play. The Gamecocks won just one conference game in 2025, against Kentucky. Can they start on the right foot against Mississippi State?
If they can, it will be in front of a full house. South Carolina announced on Tuesday afternoon that Saturday’s game agains the Bulldogs is sold out:
Since joining the SEC, South Carolina hasn’t faced Mississippi State all that frequently. This is just the 18th meeting of a series that began in 1992, with the Gamecocks holding a 10-7 lead. The last time the two teams played each other was in 2023, a 37-30 Gamecocks win in Columbia.
The Gamecocks are facing a Bulldogs program looking to rewrite the narrative of its first two seasons under Jeff Lebby. In 2024, Mississippi State went 2-10. In 2025, it won its first four games but lost eight of its final nine. The Bulldogs are just 1-15 in SEC play in the Lebby era.
