South Carolina entered the 2025 season with high expectations, but the Gamecocks struggled and they failed to make a bowl game.
Despite the tough season, the Gamecocks have done a good job of retaining top talent. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers, defensive end Dylan Stewart and wide receiver Nyck Harbor all announced they will be back in 2026.
One of Sellers’ top targets last season was Vandrevius Jacobs, who finished with 548 yards and four touchdowns, which was second to Harbor in both stats. While Shane Beamer was able to keep many of his stars from last year, he will have to replace Jacobs as the receiver reportedly has plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Jacobs started his collegiate career at Florida State in 2023, where he had three catches for 60 yards and one touchdown. He transferred after that season to South Carolina, and he had 12 catches for 181 yards in 2024.
He took a huge step this past season, as he had three games with at least 108 yards. In the Gamecocks final game of the season against Clemson, he had seven catches for 141 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown.
The NCAA transfer portal officially opens up on Friday, and Jacobs will have two years of eligibility remaining.
