Entering his fifth spring practice at South Carolina, Will Muschamp is taking on a new responsibility. While new linebackers coach Rod Wilson gets acclimated to coaching under Muschamp, the head coach himself is leading the linebacker coaching this spring. At least one Gamecock is enjoying the extra attention from Muschamp.
โItโs amazing,โ Ernest Jones told The Big Spur. โCoach Muschamp, with him being your position coach you can see how intelligent of a coach he is. For me, especially, I feel my game on the mental side of things has taken a whole different turn. He knows and sees things that anyone else couldnโt see. Itโs amazing. I like being with Coach Muschamp.โ
Muschamp has explained it’s just for the spring to help Wilson ease into the role.
โIโm working with the linebackers with (Wilson) right now,โ Muschamp said. โWe have a certain vernacular and verbiage in how we teach things. Heโs going through that right now. It has nothing to do with his expertise to coach linebackers, believe me. Heโs going to be fine. We just want to make sure weโre on the same page and heโll take them over after spring ball.โ
Muschamp previously worked with South Carolina’s safeties, but staff changes in Columbia have Kyle Krantz now assisting Travaris Robinson with coaching defensive backs. Muschamp has plenty of prior experience coaching linebackers at LSU (2001-04), Auburn (2006-07) and Texas (2008-10).
