South Carolina coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks have done a tremendous job of keeping their top players from leaving in the transfer portal. Guys like LaNorris Sellers, Dylan Stewart, and Nyck Harbor have all already announced they will be back next year.

The Gamecocks got even more good news on Wednesday when it was reported that starting left tackle Josiah Thompson has withdrawn from the portal and will return next season.

Thompson was a monster signing for South Carolina in the Class of 2024. According to the 247 Composite, Thompson was the No. 35 player in the class. He was the No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina, and the No. 3 offensive lineman. There was a ton of interest for him in the portal, as Georgia and Miami both hosted him on visits.

In his 2 seasons at South Carolina, he has started all 24 games that he has played in, and missed only one game due to an injury. He earned All-Freshman SEC and Freshman All-American honors in 2024.

Beamer, at the end of the year, delivered a passionate speech where he guaranteed the Gamecocks would be a different team in 2026. That message has at least hit home in the locker room, with many of the top players staying home.
