South Carolina reportedly signs transfer WR from FCS program
South Carolina is trying to rebound from a disastrous 4-8 season, and it took a step in that direction on Saturday afternoon with the signing of a wide receiver from an unlikely program.
The Gamecocks signed Holy Cross transfer Charly Mullaly, according to a report by On3’s Pete Nakos. Mullaly appeared in 18 games during his 3 seasons with the FCS program, totaling 333 yards receiving during his time there. He played in just 5 games this past season, catching 17 passes for 189 yards and 1 touchdown.
During the 2024 season, Mullaly played in 4 games as a wide receiver, breaking through at the position after mostly contributing on special teams during his freshman season. Mullaly had 8 catches for 136 yards and 1 touchdown during that 2024 season, after catching just 1 pass for 8 yards as a freshman in 2023.
Now, he’ll be taking a large step up in competition, going from the tiny Patriot League to the mighty SEC. But South Carolina is taking a chance that he’ll thrive despite that massive step, as it tries to rebuild its roster with Shane Beamer being back in Columbia in 2026 despite the program’s struggles last fall.
Mullaly played his high school football in New Jersey, setting program records at Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J., for single-season receiving yards and touchdowns.
He’ll have 2 years of eligibility left after preserving a redshirt in 2024.
Mullaly is the latest addition to South Carolina’s offense for the 2026 season, after the Gamecocks recently added NC State offensive line transfer Jaccarius Peak.
