SEC coaches are taking aim at Ole Miss’s recruiting habits this week.
While yesterday it was Lane Kiffin pointing his finger at Ole Miss’s lack of diversity serving as a sticking point for recruits while he was head coach in Oxford, Tuesday’s offensive on Ole Miss comes from Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.
The Longhorns head coach told USA Today’s Matt Hayes that Ole Miss actually has a slight recruiting advantage over Texas when it comes to academics. Sarkisian’s argument is that Texas only accepts 50% of a player’s academic credit hours when transferring, insinuating it’s harder to earn a degree when transferring to Austin.
At Ole Miss, on the other hand, Sarkisian joked that incoming transfers can sign up for “basket weaving” and still graduate on time.
โAt Texas, we will only take 50% of a playerโs academic credit hours. You may be a semester from graduating, but youโre going all the way back to 50% if you play here and want a degree. But at Ole Miss, they can take you. All you have to do is take basket weaving, and you can get an Ole Miss degree.โ
Texas hosts Ole Miss on October 24 in Austin.
