Report: Steve Spurrier Jr. could join Gators staff

There’s no indication that Steve Spurrier will be returning to Florida, but his son might.

Sources told GridironNow.com’s Mike Huguenin that Steve Spurrier Jr. is among the candidates in the running to be an offensive quality control assistant for the Gators. Spurrier Jr. worked at Florida for five seasons and was part of the Gators’ 1996 national championship team.

If hired, he would replace Marquel Blackwell (now the running backs coach at Toledo) and would work with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier.

Spurrier Jr., 44, has racked up quite a bit of coaching experience. He has been an assistant with the Gamecocks the last 11 seasons and has served as co-offensive coordinator for the Gamecocks under his father.
