Still fuming over non-call, Auburn blasted on social media for not focusing on Texas A&M
Auburn athletic director John Cohen released a statement on Thursday that explained how frustrated the football program remains about that controversial touchdown that was allowed in last Saturday’s showdown at Oklahoma.
On Thursday night, with that game in Norman having been played a full 5 days earlier, many on social media voiced how frustrated they were regarding Auburn‘s continued show of frustration. In other words, those on social media were telling Cohen and the entire Auburn football program to get over what happened and maybe focus on this Saturday’s SEC showdown at No. 9 Texas A&M.
Cohen’s statement, released late Thursday afternoon, explained that although sometimes judgment calls go the other way in a football game, the touchdown that Oklahoma scored in the second quarter of its 24-17 victory last Saturday went beyond judgment calls. Cohen also said in the statement that the Auburn family and the Tigers’ student-athletes deserved better.
The statement about a game played almost a week earlier, especially with another huge game coming up in just 2 days, got a predictable reaction on social media. Auburn fans were embarrassed at the school’s timing. Oklahoma fans were incredulous about Auburn’s continued focus on a game in the past. Casual observers were just entertained by the situation.
Here is just a sampling of the social media backlash that Auburn received:
