Les Miles said at SEC Media Days that he was waiting for the legal process to sort itself out and that he expects three indefinitely suspended players — quarterback Anthony Jennings, defensive end Maquedius Bain and defensive back Dwayne Thomas — to return to the team in time for fall practice.
Speaking at a rotary club engagement inside the club area within the south end zone expansion at Tiger Stadium on Wednesday, Miles said a conclusion could be reached and charges dropped ‘today or tomorrow.’
“If this was a regular case, take football out of it, if it just involved a regular LSU student, you wouldn’t have known it happened. It would routinely be dismissed,” Miles said, according to The Advocate. “I’m taking my time to get it right.”
Earlier this summer, the three players and three other men allegedly entered a residence to retrieve items that were stolen from Jennings, according to The Advocate. It is LSU’s policy to suspend players with ongoing legal issues.
Miles spoke directly to East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore in an awkward exchange that drew laughter during Wednesday’s appearance
“I’m right there with you. You hear me? As we have always operated, I’m on your schedule,” Miles said, according to The Advocate. “You tell me what you need to tell me, and I will operate accordingly. I promise you.”
