Since the transfer portal opened on Jan. 2, it has seemingly known no bounds.
With players entering the portal at a record pace and multi-million dollar deals being signed around the country, college football’s current news cycle is consumed by imports and exports.
And now, it’s gotten to the point where sacred rivalry boundaries have been broken, because Texas A&M freshman offensive tackle Jonte Newman announced that he will be committing to play for arch rival Texas on Wednesday, per On3’s HayesFawcett’s reporting.
A native of Cypress, Texas, Newman was rated a 4-star recruit by 247Sports coming out of high school in 2025. But despite his high billing and in-state ties, Newman rarely saw the field for the Aggies this past season.
Now, the 6-foot-4, 331 lb. lineman will take his talents to Austin in hopes of bolstering Texas’ offensive front. With Arch Manning returning and a transfer portal class headlined by former Auburn receiver Cam Coleman joining him, the Longhorns are appearing to be going all-in on claiming a national title next season.
Newman figures to play an important role along UT’s offensive line next year, but his move will likely carry an even larger impact when it comes to the bragging rights between these fan bases.
