Syracuse picked up a signature win for Fran Brown when it took down Clemson 34-21 on Saturday, but the Orange also watched starting quarterback Steve Angeli exit with a lower-leg injury during the game, and it appears that ailment will be costly.

Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel’s report, Angeli underwent an MRI and it was found that he ruptured his Achilles during the win over the Tigers. The injury will end Angeli’s season, although he expects to have two more years of eligibility under the assumption that he will be granted a medical redshirt for this season.

The news puts a sour note on a promising start to the year for Syracuse. Following a 45-26 defeat at the hands of Tennessee to open the season in Atlanta, the Orange pulled out an overtime win over UConn before cruising to a victory over Colgate.

Angeli was a major reason why the Cuse won three games in a row, as he had thrown for 1,316 yards and 10 touchdowns to just 2 interceptions thus far. The former 3-star recruit out of New Jersey transferred from Notre Dame prior to the 2025 campaign, and he figures to be Brown’s starter for two more years given he can rehab effectively.

LSU transfer Rickie Collins is expected to take over. He completed 3 passes for 34 yards and a score Saturday.
