The Florida Gators landed their eighth commitment for the class of 2018 Saturday in Bradenton, Florida, defensive end Taylor Upshaw.
Listed at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Upshaw is rated as a 3-star prospect, the No. 25 strong-side defensive end and the state of Florida’s No. 105 overall player for the class of 2018, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
This is a great sign for Florida, because it appears the staff is recruiting the Tampa-area much better now. Upshaw joins defensive back Amari Burney (Clearwater, FL) and wide receiver Jalynn Williams (St. Petersburg, FL) as Tampa-area commits. The Gators haven’t faired well in the area in recent history.
Upshaw is also the Gators first defensive line commit for this year’s recruiting class, and he committed following a visit to Gainesville last weekend.
“It’s two hours away,” he said. “The coaching staff is amazing, the facilities are amazing and it’s right here in my back yard,” Upshaw told 247Sports.
