Taulia Tagovailoa discusses decision to commit to Alabama, close relationship with brother Tua

Following a busy weekend on the recruiting trail, Alabama now has two highly-touted 2019 quarterback prospects committed thanks to the pledge of in-state prospect Taulia Tagovailoa. Despite the fact his brother Tua is already entrenched as a budding legend in Tuscaloosa, Taulia has decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps and play in Tuscaloosa.
Interestingly enough, Tua claims he was unaware that Taulia had planned to commit to the Crimson Tide when asked about it during last weekend’s A-Day spring game.
Now that Alabama projects to soon have two quarterbacks named Tagovailoa on the roster, the younger signal caller joined Birmingham-based WJOX 94.5 FM radio program The Roundtable to discuss his weekend decision to commit to the Crimson Tide.
“We just prayed about it and felt doing it at the A-Day was perfect timing for us, we just went and did it,” Tagovailoa said during his appearance on the show.
Interestingly enough, Taulia was somewhat non-committal when asked if he planned to take official visits to other schools before he can officially join a college program.
“That’s another thing me and my family have to talk about… We’ll have to see,” Tagovailoa said.
He also touched on the importance of being an early enrollee, which he is currently working hard academically to achieve.
“It’s a big priority because high school is a lot itself and I really want to get the college experience early like my brother did and get to training and get to building a relationship with the team early, so by the time the season comes around, I’ll be going in smooth,” he continued.
The way Taulia explained it, his older brother didn’t really spend any time recruiting him to Tuscaloosa.
“My brother is everything to me, we really can’t leave each other,” Taulia said. “It’s going to be good for me and my family because we are both at Tuscaloosa and it’s only an hour away, and me and Tua will be close to each other obviously. He hasn’t been recruiting me much, it’s just me trying to be close to my brother and family and him being close with me.”
As for the other programs that have caught his attention in recruiting, it appears Tennessee stands alone as Alabama’s biggest threat in his recruitment. Here’s what Taulia had to say when asked if any other coaches stood out to him during his recruitment.
“I really like Tennessee with Brian Niedermeyer and Coach Pruitt and them. They are really good to me every time I visit over there. They are also good to our guys. I really like Tennessee,” Taulia added. “I like Nebraska and South Carolina, too. Those are the other schools that are up there.”
