Halloween has finally rolled around on the calendar, and that means folks from all over are getting ready to break out their best costumes in order take part in the holiday festivities.

The holiday is also a pretty big deal in the college football world, with programs across the country using the occasion as an opportunity to debut some of their best alternate uniforms.

That includes the No. 16 Tennessee Volunteers, who announced that they will hold their annual “Dark Mode” game on Nov. 7 when they welcome the No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats to Rocky Top for what is likely to be the biggest game of the year for both squads.

This will mark the fifth consecutive season that the Vols have worn their sleek all-black alternate uniforms for a night game, a tradition that began in 2022 against the Wildcats. Tennessee typically tries to schedule the game around Halloween, but with the team currently on a bye week, this year’s matchup has been pushed back a bit.

The Tennessee orange accents pair perfectly with the black helmets, jerseys and pants, creating one of the cleanest alternate uniform combinations in college football. Fans inside Neyland Stadium will also be dressed in all black, taking one of the best atmospheres in college football to an entirely new level.

This matchup was already going to be a major test for Kentucky and head coach Will Stein, but the Vols have made things even more challenging by adding their Dark Mode atmosphere to the equation.
