Tennessee fans storm field after Volunteers upset Alabama on Third Saturday in October
The Tennessee Volunteers beat the Alabama Crimson Tide 26-10 on Saturday afternoon. The 16-point margin of victory is the Vols’ largest over the Crimson Tide since a 35-18 triumph in 1998, when Tennessee won the national championship.
Saturday’s win was the Vols’ third straight over Alabama at Neyland Stadium. Josh Heupel may have turned defeating the Crimson Tide into a custom, but that doesn’t mean his fanbase can’t celebrate the good times. After the final second ticked off the clock, Tennessee fans stormed the field and danced to Dixieland Delight.
Alabama hopes losing to Tennessee in Knoxville won’t continue to be routine after this season. However, the opposing fanbase storming the field when the Crimson Tide comes to town and loses is now an ordinary occurrence. According to AL.com, the Volunteers are the 10th straight opponent to storm the field after beating Alabama. Every Crimson Tide road loss since 2010 has seen a field storming.
Alabama (5-2, 3-2 SEC) has now dropped back-to-back regular season games for the first time since 2007. Kalen DeBoer has time to get his reeling squad in order, but their margin for error in chasing a College Football Playoff berth has dwindled. The Crimson Tide face the Texas A&M Aggies in Tuscaloosa next Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
