Tennessee G Jordan Gainey dealing with flu-like symptoms ahead of Auburn game, per report
Tennessee guard Jordan Gainey is officially listed as questionable for Saturday’s top-10 matchup with Auburn in Neville Arena.
According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Gainey is dealing with flu-like symptoms and did not travel on the team bus when Tennessee made its way from the airport to the team hotel. Instead, he traveled with support staffers. He is expected to be a game-time decision, per Thamel.
Gainey is the Volunteers’ third-leading scorer this season, averaging 11.2 points per game. The 6-foot-4 senior plays 27 minutes a night in a sixth-man role. He’s shooting 42.3% from the field and 33.8% from 3 while providing 3.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
The injury report also lists guard Igor Milicic as probable. Milicic has started all 19 games this season for the Vols.
Tennessee (17-2, 4-2 SEC) is looking to knock off Auburn (17-1, 5-0) in a battle between top-6 teams. The Tigers are the No. 1 team in America, and they are favored by 6.5 points by ESPN Bet.
But Auburn has its own injury situation to worry about. Forward Johni Broome is listed as questionable. The Tigers’ leading scorer has missed the last 2 games with an ankle injury. Thamel reported on Saturday that a decision will be made “close to game-time” and that if Broome is able to play, he’ll be on a minutes restriction.
Tip-off between the 2 sides is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
