Tennessee in the mix for transfer QB out of UNLV, per report

Tennessee football is very likely to be without Joey Aguilar next season.
The former App State quarterback is seeking an extension thanks to the ruling that allowed Diego Pavia another year in college football with Vanderbilt. If Aguilar doesn’t get the extension, his college career will be over and Tennessee will enter next year with freshman Brandon Faizon as the projected QB1.
That is, unless the Vols decide to attack the transfer portal – which seems like the most likely outcome should Aguilar’s case be denied. With that said, who would Tennessee target?
According to Pete Nakos of On3Sports, a former UNLV quarterback is in the mix to fill that potential void. Anthony Colandrea, a junior who announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal a few days ago, is reportedly a transfer candidate for Tennessee.
In a lot of ways, this makes a lot of sense for the Vols. Colandrea is a gunslinger – similar to Aguilar before he arrived in Knoxville – and saw improvement under Dan Mullen at UNLV, especially where turnovers are concerned. The former Virginia quarterback had 11 interceptions across 320 attempts in 2024 and 9 interceptions across 417 attempts this past season.
Colandrea is also a threat with his legs, having rushed for 649 yards and 10 touchdowns this season with the Runnin Rebels.
