The Tennessee Volunteers have landed a commitment from former Michigan safety TJ Metcalf, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Metcalf spent the last year with the Michigan Wolverines after spending the previous two with Arkansas. He totaled 58 tackles, 4 passes defended, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery in his lone season with the Wolverines.
Metcalf should be a nice addition to the Vols’ defense, which struggled in 2025 as they ranked No. 67 in opponent yards per play.
Metcalf, the Birmingham, Alabama native, will be joining his third team in just four years. Metcalf played well in Michigan’s big games this year. Against Oklahoma, Metcalf ended the game with 4 tackles and his lone interception of the season. Against Ohio State, Metcalf totaled 10 tackles, and against Texas in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, he had 7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass defended.
Tennessee’s defense will need to take a huge step up next year if it wants to be competing in the College Football Playoff, and Metcalf will play a huge role in helping elevate this Tennessee defense.
All eyes turn now to the quarterback situation for the Vols.
