Tennessee football lost a pledge from Class of 2027 cornerback Kamauri Whitfield on Friday. The 5-10, 3-star cornerback had been committed to Tennessee since October 15 of last year following Tennessee’s win over Arkansas.
Whitfield – who hails from The First Academy in Orlando, Florida – has an offer list that certainly does not look like your typical 3-star prospect. He currently holds offers from Florida, Miami, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon and Nebraska.
Whitfield is considered to be the No. 37 cornerback in the Class of 2027 and the No. 34 player from the state of Florida. He was also the only cornerback committed to Tennessee in the Class of 2027, and his absence means the Vols only have 4 prospects committed heading into next season. According to 247Sports, Whitfield was Tennessee’s 2nd highest rated defensive commitment, behind only defensive lineman Kadin Fife.
Of course, it’s still very early in the recruiting process. Tennessee’s 2027 class is ranked No. 13 in the country and 5th in the SEC behind only Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Georgia and Texas.
The Vols recently hired defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, deciding to part ways with Tim Banks after 5 years on Rocky Top.
