Tennessee has had an up-and-down season, losing showdown games along the way that have rendered the 3-loss Volunteers a non-factor in the College Football Playoff chase.

The 19th-ranked Vols are 8-3, which isn’t what Josh Heupel or a passionate fan base wanted in late November. But that’s where Tennessee is as it gets ready for its traditional regular-season finale against rival Vanderbilt. This time, the Vols and Commodores will meet in Knoxville, where Tennessee can put the final dagger in 14th-ranked Vandy’s faint Playoff hopes.

That will be 1 of the goals for the Volunteers on Saturday in the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN, and on the eve of the matchup Tennessee named 4 captains who will lead it in that pursuit. The special quartet are Dominic Bailey, Bryson Eason, Jesse Perry and William Wright.

Tennessee football’s social media account celebrated the announcement of the captains with this post:

Bailey is a senior defensive lineman with 22 total tackles this season, 10 of them solo. He also has 5.5 sacks with 1 forced fumble this fall.

Eason is also a senior defensive lineman with 21 total tackles this year, 4 of them solo. He also has 1 fumble recovery.

Perry is a freshman offensive lineman, which means being named a team captain for the Vanderbilt rivalry game as a freshman represents a big honor.

Finally, Wright is a senior defensive back with 8 total tackles, 5 of them solo, and 1 interception so far this season.
